Binoculars helps you see the things far away.
望遠鏡，可以讓你看到很遠的東西。
Chip 是用望遠鏡，看到了遠處的小海豹。

Where 在哪裡，你覺得海豹媽媽會去哪裡了呢？
「Perhaps the mother is getting food," said Mum.
「也許媽媽去找食物了。」媽媽說。
perhaps 就是 「也許/可能」 的意思，
maybe perhaps，都是 「也許」 的意思。
get food 尋找食物。
「Perhaps the mother is getting food," said Mum.
「But what if the pup is lost?」asked Biff.
lost 迷路，丟失
而這裡的 what if 的意思就是說：如果...怎麼辦？
「但如果小海豹是迷路了怎麼辦呢?」 Biff 問。

It was alone.
What would the family do?
「Let's wait to see if the mother comes back,"said Dad.
「我們等等看他媽媽是否回來。」爸爸說。
wait to see 等等看，等著瞧
就和我們經常說的那句一樣
Let's wait and see. 就讓我們等著瞧吧，等著看吧。
那，等什麼呢？
if 在這裡是 「是否」 的意思，
是否媽媽會 come back，會回來。

So the seal pup was in danger.
