時間狀語從句，表示時間的狀語從句連接詞通常用：

連接詞when、as soon as/while當…，as 當…/before 在…前，after 在…後/since 自從…/till/until 直到… 用法：

（1）when當…，as soon as 一…就… 表示某一時間發生的動作，從句謂語動詞通常用一般現在時或者一般過去時。例如：

When he comes, I will give him the message.

當他來的時候，我將把這個信捎給他。

As soon as I receive his letter,I'll let you know.

我一收到他的信，我就告訴你。

When she opened the bag, she found a note in it.

當她打開包，她發現裡面有張條子。

As soon as I sat down, the waiter brought me a cup of tea.

我一坐下，服務員就給我端來一杯荼。

如果強調過去發生的兩個動作有先後關係，從句謂語動詞可以用過去完成時。例如：

When he (had) finished the exam paper, he handed it it.

他做完試卷後交了上去。

As soon as they (had) returned from London, they drove to see their sick aunt.

他們一從倫敦回來，就開車去看望他們患病的姨媽。

（2）while當…，as 當… 表示動作或狀態持續過程。例如：

While the space plane is travelling, the pilot can fly it just like an ordinary plane.

太空梭飛行時，飛機駕駛員可以像開普通飛機一樣駕駛它。

While we were in America, we often telephoned to each other.

我們在美國時，我們常常互相通電話。

當主句和從句謂語動詞表示的動作同時進行，可以同時用過去進行時或一般過去時。例如：

I was listening to the song while my mother was cooking.

我聽歌時，我母親在做飯。

While the students were having/had pair work, the teacher was walking/walked round the classroom.

學生們在開展對子活動，老師在教室里巡迴。

as常用於強調主句和從句的動作同時進行。例如：

We talked as we walked along.

我們邊走邊談。

As I waited outside the ward, I got worried.

我等在病房外，擔心起來。

He walked as drank orange juice.

他邊走邊喝桔子汁。

（3）while當…，as 當… 表示在某動作進行過程中，另一動作發生。通常表示背景的動作多用過去進行時，另一發生的動作用一般過去時表示。例如：

While I was driving along a road, a dog suddenly ran across it.

我駕車在路上行駛時，一條狗突然橫穿馬路。

While she was getting out of the car, a policeman came up to her.

她正下車，一位警察來到她跟前。

As we were leaving, Evans arrived with his wife.

我們正要離開，埃文斯和他的妻子來了。

As she was running,the policeman came.

她正要跑，警察來了。

（4）before 在…前，after 在…後 表示動作先後發生。

從句謂語動詞多用一般時態，有時也可以用完成時態。例如：

After he gets up, he usually drinks a cup of water.

他起床後，通常喝一杯水。

After you finish/have finished eating, don't forget to clean the table.

你吃完飯後，不要忘了擦乾淨桌子。

After the singer (had) finished singing, people cheered.

歌星唱完後，人們喝起彩來。

Close all the windows before you leave.

離開前請關上所有的窗子。

He turned off TV before he went to bed.

他睡覺前關了電視。

We had had lunch before we came here.

我們來這兒前已經吃過午飯了。

（5）since 自從… 表示某動作或狀態從過去某一時間延續至今。

從句謂語動詞多用一般過去時，而主句謂語動詞多用現在完成時。例如：

This English textbook has been used in our school since it came out nine years ago.

自從九年前出版以來，這本英語教科書一直在我們學校使用。

We have lived in this house since we bought it from Wanghua in 1986.

自從1986年我們從王華手裡買下這幢房子以來，我們一直住在這兒。

They have been happy since they came to study in our school.

自從他們到我們學校學習以來，他們一直很高興。

Two weeks has passed since the new term began.

開學以來兩個星期已經過去了。

He had long since written off the money.

他很早就將那筆錢勾銷了。

（6）till/until 直到… 表示某動作或狀態持續到某一時間終止。

從句謂語動詞多用一般時態，有時也可以用完成時態。例如：

They'll stay at school until they are sixteen.

他們將在學校一直待到16歲。

The model plane kept flying till it hit into a stone wall.

模型飛機一直飛行直到撞在石頭牆上。

They had to wait till Monday to ring the bank manager.

他們必須等到周一才能給銀行經理打電話。

They didn't stop running until they got to the end of the street.

他們一直奔到馬路盡頭才停下。

He won't hand the exercise book in until got the end of the street.

直到訂正了所有的錯誤他才會交上練習本。

The traffic laws don't take effect until the end of the year.

交通法要到年底才生效。

He put his retirement on hold until he had found a solution.

他推遲了退休，直到他找到了解決辦法。
