1899.06.12-1968.12.26，筆名Weegee，是一位專攻犯罪和暴力的自由派報紙攝影師和攝影記者，以在紐約市的黑白街拍而著稱。
上世紀三四十年代，Weegee曾在曼哈頓下東區擔任攝影記者，通過跟蹤該市的緊急服務和記錄他們的活動，發展了他的標誌性風格。他的許多作品描繪了城市生活、犯罪、傷害和死亡的堅定現實場景。威吉出版了攝影書籍，也在電影院工作，最初他自己製作短片，後來與傑克·多諾霍和斯坦利·庫布里克等電影導演合作。
當人們第一次看到Weegee拍攝的照片時，都很難相信一個普通的地球人可以在城市生活中出現如此多的高光時刻。對這一現象最簡單的解釋是：真愛賦予了男人獨特的品質。Weegee是真的喜愛這座城市——紐約，不是你我所了解的紐約，而是他所熟悉的紐約。因為熱愛這座城市，Weegee得以和它親密無間地生活在一起。無論生病還是健康，他都會帶上相機出發，尋找新的證據來證明他的城市是美麗的，即使是在它最混亂、最可悲的時候。
作為一名藝術家，Weegee保持了他獨特的風格.。他對紐約的主觀描繪應該被看作是一種創造性的藝術作品。因為，雖然所有的元素都在那裡供任何人使用，但從來沒有人像他那樣使用它們。他耐心地尋找這些元素，並用心地將它們組合在一起，使我們能夠看到他的城市，相信它，熱愛它——但又想讓它變得更好。
