1.多於；……多；超過。強調某一事物在數量上超出一定的範圍。後方常接數詞，相當於over

More than 2,000 people were killed in the earthquake.
地震中有2000多人遇難。
2.不只是；不僅僅。相當於not only或not just。後方接名詞、動詞或副詞。

3.很；非常；十分。相當於very。後方接形容詞、副詞、動詞。

2.與其說……倒不如……；是……而不是……。一般來說，more和than連接的兩部分詞性相同。

Dogs bark more for custom than fierceness.

三、其他的習慣用法
1.no more than 僅僅
She spent no more than fifty dollars on the coat.
2.not more than 最多。相當於at most
We can learn not more than twenty new words this week.
我們這周最多能學20個生詞。
3.more than one / more+複數名詞+than one（前者謂語動詞用單數；後者謂語動詞用複數）不止一個
More than one teacher has been to Australia in this college.
這所學院的教師中，不止一人去過澳大利亞。

4.no more ... than / not any more ... than 與……一樣不；和……都不

5.not more ... than 不如……。相當於not so ... as。
This film is not more moving than that one.
這部電影不如那部感人。
6.no less than有……之多

在事故中有多達10人受傷。
7.not less than不少於
Not less than ten people were wounded in the accident.
在事故中受傷的人不少於10個。
8.more or less 或多或少
The work is more or less finished.
工作基本上完成了。
9.no more沒有剩餘的
He is very ill; I'm afraid he will soon be no more.
他病得很重，恐怕來日不多了。
10.once more 再一次
Say it once more.
再說一遍。
11.What's more 此外；而且
I missed the bus and had to walk home. What's more, it was raining and I got all wet.

12，sooner or later 遲早
You should tell her because she'll find out sooner or later.
