话说得很direct(直接的)，错误善于detect(发现)，缺点从不neglect(忽视)，用人细心select(挑选)，公共设施erect(建造)，人民利益protect(保护)。

1、direct towards
toward：向，趋向，靠近，接近，direct towards不是直接靠近，而是指“花时间或力气去做”，相当于cost time,strength to do.
例句：
Our energies must be directed towards higher productivity.
我们必须努力谋求增产。
2、detect in
detect做动词解释时，意思是“发现，发觉，查出，查明，侦察”等，detect in是指“在(某人)做(某种坏事)时抓住 catch (sb) doing (sth wrong)”。
例句：

3、neglect of duty
neglect是“忽视，忽略；疏忽；漏做”，neglect of duty就是忽视自己的责任，也就是我们常说的“玩忽职守”的意思。

4、protect against
protect是“保护，防卫；警戒”，就是保护什么以免怎么样。protect against就是“使免受”，protect from也是此意。

5、select society
选择性社交？不是，其本意是指“上流社会”，小伙伴是不是不清楚啊，这就知道了。
例句：
