Over in the meadow，

In the sand in the sun，

草地之上，在陽光下的沙地上，

Lived an old mother toadie

and her little toadie one，

住著一隻大蟾蜍媽媽和一隻蟾蜍小寶寶。

「Wink！」 said the mother，

「I wink！」 said the one，

「眨眨眼吧！」媽媽說，

「我來眨眨眼！」蟾蜍小寶寶說，

So they winked and they blinked

In the sand in the sun.

於是，它們在陽光下的沙地上眨著眼睛。

Over in the meadow，

Where the stream runs blue，

草地之上， 那裡流淌著藍色的河流，

Lived an old mother fish

And her little fishes two，

住著一隻大魚媽媽和兩條小魚寶寶。

「Swim！」 said the mother，

「We swim！」 said the two，

「游起來吧！」媽媽說，

「我們游泳嘍！」兩條小魚說，

So they swam and they leaped

Where the stream runs blue.

於是，它們在藍色的溪流中游著跳著。

Over in the meadow，

In a hole in a tree，

草地之上， 在一個樹洞裡，

Lived an old mother squirrel

and her little squirrels three，

住著一隻老松鼠媽媽和三隻小松鼠寶寶。

「Nibble！」 said the mother，

「We nibble！」 said the three，

「啃東西！」媽媽說，

「我們啃東西！」三隻小松鼠說，

So they nibbled and they hid

In the hole in the tree.

於是，它們在樹洞裡開心地啃東西。

Over in the meadow，

In the reeds on the shore，

草地之上， 在岸邊的蘆葦叢中，

Lived an old mother otter

And her little otters four，

住著一隻老水獺媽媽和四隻水獺寶寶。

「Dive！」 said the mother，

「We dive！」 said the four，

「跳水！」媽媽說，

「我們跳水去羅！」四隻水獺寶寶說，

So they dived and they burrowed

in the reeds on the shore.

於是，它們在岸邊的蘆葦叢中又竄又掘。

Over in the meadow，

In a snug beehive，

草地之上， 在一個舒適的蜂窩裡，

Lived a mother honey bee

And her little bees five.

住著一隻蜜蜂媽媽和五隻小蜜蜂。

「Buzz！」 said the mother，

「We buzz！」 said the five，

「嗡嗡！」媽媽說，

「我們嗡嗡叫！」小蜜蜂說，

So they buzzed and they hummed

In the snug beehive.

於是，它們在舒適的蜂窩裡嗡嗡叫起來了。

Over in the meadow，

In a nest made of sticks，

草地之上， 在一個用樹枝搭起的巢里，

Lived a black mother crow

and her little crows six.

住著一隻黑烏鴉媽媽和六隻小烏鴉。

「Caw！」 said the mother，

「We caw！」 said the six，

「哇哇叫起來吧！」媽媽說，

「我們哇哇叫！」小烏鴉說，

So they cawed and they called

In their nest built of sticks.

於是，它們在樹枝搭起的巢里哇哇叫起來了。

Over in the meadow，

Where the grass tastes like heaven，

草地之上，那裡的草像在天堂一樣美味，

Lived on old mother rabbit

And her little rabbits seven.

住著一隻兔媽媽和她的七隻兔寶寶。

"Hop！" said the mother，

"We hop！" said the seven，

「跳起來！」兔媽媽說，

「我們跳起來！」七隻兔寶寶說，

So they hopped and they bounced

In the green grassy heaven.

所以他們在美味的草地上又蹦又跳。

Over in the meadow，

By the old mossy gate，

草地之上， 在長滿苔蘚的古老大門旁，

Lived a brown mother lizard

And her little lizards eight，

住著一隻棕色的蜥蜴媽媽和八隻小蜥蜴。

「Bask！」 said the mother，

「We bask！」 said the eight，

「曬曬太陽吧！」媽媽說，

「我們曬曬太陽！」八隻小蜥蜴說，

So they basked in the sun

On the old mossy gate.

於是，它們在長滿苔蘚的古老大門上沐浴著陽光。

Over in the meadow，

Where the quiet pools shine，

草地之上， 在平靜的、灑滿陽光的湖面上，

Lived a green mother frog

And her little froggies nine.

住著一隻綠色的青蛙媽媽和九隻小青蛙。

「Croak！」 said the mother，

「We croak！」 said the nine，

「呱呱叫來吧！」媽媽說，

「我們呱呱叫羅！」九隻小青蛙說，

So they croaked and they splashed

Where the quiet pools shine.

於是，它們在平靜的、灑滿陽光的湖面上，

呱呱叫著、潑濺著水花。

Over in the meadow，

In a dark little den，

越過草地， 在一個隱蔽的小洞穴里，

Lived a black mother spider

And her little spiders ten.

住著一隻黑色的蜘蛛媽媽

和十隻小蜘蛛寶寶。

「Spin！」 said the mother，

「We spin！」 said the ten，

「吐絲吧！」媽媽說，

「我們吐絲！」十隻小蜘蛛說，

So they spun lacey webs

In their dark little den.

於是，它們在隱蔽的小洞穴里

編織著帶花邊的網。
