Long ago, there was a boy named David.
很久很久以前，有個男孩名叫大衛。
David looked after his father’s sheep.
大衛照顧著父親的羊群，
And God looked after David.
而上帝則照顧著他。
Once a lion came to steal a sheep.
有一次，一隻獅子出來偷羊。
Was David afraid? No!
大衛害怕它嗎？不！
He killed the lion all by himself!
他一個人殺死了獅子！
Soon war came to David’s land.
不久後，大衛的所在的地方發生了戰爭。
David’s brothers went off to fight.
大衛的哥哥們上前線打仗去了。
But David was too youny.
但是大衛太年輕了，
He had to stay at home.
他只能留在家裡。
One day, David’s father said,
有一天，大衛的父親對他說，
「You must take some food to your brothers.」
「你得拿上這些食物去給哥哥們。」
So David did.
大衛按照父親的話出發了。
He walked all the way to the top of a hill.
他走呀走，一路從山腳走到山頂。
David saw his brothers.
大衛看見了他的哥哥們。
He saw the king.
他看見了國王，
He saw lots of other men, too.
也看見了很多戰士。
But no one saw David.
但是沒有人注意到大衛。
Everyone was looking at the other army.
每個人都在看對面敵人的軍隊。
When would the battle begin?
戰鬥什麼時候開始呢？
Then—across the valley came a giant.
在山谷那邊，站立著一個巨人。
The giant was big and strong and mean.
巨人又高又壯，還很卑鄙。
「I am Goliath. Sent one man to fight me!」
「我是歌利亞。你們派個人來跟我較量較量！」
Shouted the giant.
巨人喊叫說。
「And if I kill him,you will be our slaves.」
「要是我殺了他，你們就成為我們的奴隸。」
The king asked,「Who will fight Goliath?」
國王問大家，「誰敢上去打歌利亞？」
「Not me! Not me!」cried the men.
「我不行！我不行！」士兵們說。
Then David said,
於是大衛回答道，
「Send me. I will fight the giant.」
「派我去。我能打敗巨人。」
David’s brothers said,
大衛的哥哥們說，
「No! You are too small. Goliath is so big!」
「不！你太年輕了。歌利亞太強大了！」
But the king said,「Let David go.」
但是國王說，「讓大衛去吧。」
The king gave David a big sword.
國王給了大衛一把劍。
David gave it back.
大衛把它還給了國王。
「I have my sling, 「he said.
「我有自己的投石器，」他說。
Goliath laughed at David.
歌利亞嘲笑大衛。
「Come!」he cried.
「你來呀！」他大喊到，
「Let me turn you into food for the birds!」
「讓我把你變成鳥兒們的食物吧！」
Was David afraid? No!
大衛害怕嗎？不！
「God will look after me,」David said.
「上帝會照顧我的！」大衛說到。
The giant laughed again.
巨人又大笑了起來。
He made fun of David’s God.
他嘲笑大衛所信靠的神。
David picked up a stone.
大衛撿起了一顆石頭，
He put it in his sling.
裝在了他的投石器上。
ZING!
咚！
The stone hit Goliath between the eyes!
石頭擊中了歌利亞的眉心！
The giant fell down—dead!
巨人跌下去——死了！
「The boy killed Goliath!」cried Goliath’s men.
「那個男孩殺死了歌利亞！」歌利亞的士兵們喊叫道。
「Run for your lives!」
「快逃命啊！」
Goliathe’s army ran away.
歌利亞的士兵們落荒而逃。
The war was over.
戰爭結束了。
David heard cheering.
大衛聽到了歡呼的聲音。
He brothers lifted him up.
他的哥哥們把他舉了起來。
Everyone was shouting David’s name.
每個人都在吶喊大衛的名字。
David was a hero!
大衛成了英雄！
David grew up to be a great king.
大衛長大後成了一位偉大的國王。
He looked after all his people.
他照顧著他的子民。
And God still looked after David.
而他的上帝一直照顧著他。
