之前小編和大家介紹過一個英語表達「XING」。這個看起來有一點像拼音的表達，其實是地道的英語。「XING」是「crossing」的縮寫，意思是道路的交叉路口。
其實，英語中還有很多寫法和中文拼音一樣的單詞。我們很容易受到母語影響，第一反應把它代入漢語拼音。比如我們今天要和大家聊一聊的表達。
前兩天，外教發消息說「I will ping you」。這個「ping」在這裡是什麼意思呢？
ping [pɪŋ]
名詞：

桌球的聲響，砰的聲響
動詞：

桌球作響，發出砰的響聲
We heard a small stone ping against our window.
我們聽到一顆小石子砰的一聲砸在我們的窗戶上。

所以，「I will ping you」是「我會給你發消息」的意思。此外，發消息還可以說「text」，名詞或動詞都可以。
I'll send you a text as soon as I have any news.
我一得到任何消息，就立刻給你發簡訊。
I texted her to arrange a time to meet.
我給她發了簡訊，和她約好見面時間。
還有一個和「ping」看起來有點像的「pin」，雖然只有3個字母，但是它也有很多不同的意思。

此外，「pin」在西洋棋中還有「牽制」或「困子」的意思。這是特殊的一步，移動後阻止另一方移動棋子，因為移動棋子會使另一個更重要的棋子有危險。
That nasty pin stopped me from moving my knight.
這步討厭的牽制，使我無法移動我的馬。

看到「pang」，很多人可能會想到「胖」，但它的意思是「一陣劇痛；（尤指）悲痛」。

We hadn't eaten since yesterday and the hunger pangs were getting harder to ignore.

看到「ping」又看到「pang」，難免會讓人想到我們的國球「桌球」。但是「桌球」正確的英語表達是「Ping-Pong」。
