英語近義詞辨析（第二集）（適用於高考、四六級、托福雅思水平）

考生在各種語言考試的備考中，要掌握5000個最基本的詞彙及相關詞組。而除了掌握這些基本詞彙的基本含義外，考生還應該分析掌握詞彙之間的詞義關係，如同義詞、近義詞、反義詞等。以下十組近義詞就是基本詞彙中必須掌握的相關近義詞。

data, message，information, 這三個名詞都含有「資料、信息」之意。

1. data是datum的複數形式，本義指作為計算和測量基礎的資料。例如:

• How likely is this datum to be confused with other data if the representation is corrupted?如果這種陳述不可靠，這一數據為何有可能和其他數據混淆？
• An accumulator set accepts samples one datum at a time, propagating them to each accumulatorin order.累加器集每次接受一個數據樣本，並將它們按順序傳播給每個累加器。
• A datum is an element of information that is transferred from a component, or received by acomponent, via a connector.基準的一個要素是信息，從一個組成部分，或收到的一個組成部分，通過一個連接器。

2. message: ( verbal or written,on answering machine, with someone，short communication )

（1）口頭或書面的消息，報文，（電話答錄機的）留言；指通過書寫、談話和信號等方式所進行的通訊「信息」。

I got a message you were trying to reach me.我收到一條消息，說你想跟我聯繫。

Would you like to leave a message?你要留言嗎？

(2） idea of book, play, film, programme（藝術作品等的）啟示，教益，寓意

The report's message was unequivocal.這份報告里傳達出的信息明確無誤。

The play's message is that right always triumphs.這齣戲的主題思想是正義最終總是會取得勝利。

（3）習慣習語to get the message （不可用其它兩個詞替換）領會；明白

I think they got the message that this is wrong.我想他們已經明白這樣做是錯誤的。

3. information和data作「資料」解時，前者僅指所獲得、提供或描述的慨況，而不指具體的數據或資料，後者則指具體的資料。

information指 facts ， 信息；消息；見聞；情報

• They continue to withhold important information about their nuclear programme.他們繼續隱瞞有關其原子能計劃的重要情報。
• Where did he get his information from?他從哪兒得到的消息？
• documents containing sensitive information含有敏感信息的文件
• The police are asking for anybody with information to come forward.警察請任何了解情況的人站出來。
• to get information on sth獲取關於某事的知識
• I'm trying to get some information on keeping dogs.我正設法獲取養狗方面的資料。

習慣用語 for your information告訴你，你要知道（用於生氣地告知對方的錯誤）

soon, at once, right away，immediately, instantly, presently, directly, shortly,這八個副詞或副詞詞組均有「立刻，馬上」之意。

1. soon: 常用詞，指行動快，完成速度快。
2. at once: 口語中常用，語氣強烈，指時間緊迫，一刻也不能耽誤。
3. right away: 主要用於美國英語，語氣稍弱於at once，強調動作迅速。
4. immediately: 指做完一件事後，立即就做另一件事，中間一般沒有明顯的時間間隔。
5. instantly: 指恰恰就在此刻，一秒鐘也沒耽誤。
6. presently: 指不久、即將。
7. directly和immediately同義，指毫無遲疑。
8. shortly和soon同義，指動作發生或完成的速度之快。

gather, judge，infer, deduce, conclude, 這五個動詞均含「推斷」之意。

gather: 指從聽到的情況推測、判定。

to gather that …猜想；認為；了解到

I gathered that they were not going to eat with us.我想他們不會跟我們一起用餐了。

to gather from sth[ +expression, tone of voice ] 從…推斷

I gather from his tone of voice that he's not very pleased.聽他的口氣，我覺得他不太高興。

From his disjointed ramblings, I gathered he didn't like doctors much.我從他雜亂無章的絮絮叨叨推斷，他不太喜歡醫生。

2.judge: 多指經過仔細鑑定或評價之後作出決斷

How will they judge which is the most reliable?他們會如何來斷定哪一個最可靠呢？

The doctor judged that the man's health had, up to the time of the wound, been good.醫生斷定，直至受傷前，這名男子的身體狀況一直很好。

to judge sth to be sth[ +failure, dangerous, necessary ] 斷定…是…

The operation must be judged a failure.該手術肯定會被認定是一次失敗的手術。

The UN withdrew its relief personnel because it judged the situation too dangerous.聯合國認定形勢過於危險，所以撤出了它所有的救援人員。

3.infer: 指從已提供的論據或從已接受的前提出發而推斷出的結論。

(1) to infer sth from sth從…推斷出…

information from which he can infer the future course of events.他能從中推斷出事件未來走向的信息

(2) to infer that …推斷出…

We can infer that if the battery is dead, the horn will not sound.我們可以推斷，如果電池用完了，喇叭也就不會響了。

I inferred from what she said that you have not been well.我根據她說的話推斷，你身體一直不太好。

(3) ( hint, imply ) 意味著；暗示

The police inferred that they found her behaviour rather suspicious. 警方暗示，他們發現她的行為相當可疑。

I don't like what you're inferring.我不喜歡你的言外之意。

(4) ( indicate ) 表明；表示

His silence infers his guilt.他的沉默表明他很內疚。

4.deduce: 指有充分根據的推論，也指邏輯學上的演繹。

(1) infer演繹；推論

He deduced this from his observations.他從觀察中推斷出了這一點。

She hoped he hadn't deduced the reason for her visit.她希望他沒有推斷出她這次造訪的原因。

(2) to be deduced from sth從某事推斷

The date can be deduced from references to historical events.日期是可以從提及歷史事件之處推斷出來的。

(3) to deduce that …推斷出…

Alison had deduced that I wrote the letter.艾莉森已經推斷出這封信是我寫的。

5.conclude: 指得出符合邏輯的結論。

(1) deduce ) 推斷出；推論出；作出…結論

What do you conclude from that?你能從中推斷出什麼？

So what can we conclude from this debate?那麼我們從這次辯論中可以得出什麼結論？

What I ultimately concluded is simply that people here do too much.我最終得出的結論就是這裡的人們做得太多。

theme, topic，issue, subject,這四個名詞均有「主題、話題」之意。

1. theme: 系正式用詞，多指文學、藝術作品的主題，或論文、演說的主題。
2. topic: 普通用詞，含義廣泛，但其範疇小於subject。既可指文章、講話的題目，談話的內容，又可指提綱中的標題甚至段落的主題或中心思想。
3. issue: 指有爭論、議論，急需討論研究的熱點話題。
4. subject: 一般用詞，使用廣泛。指書籍、文章、演講、討論等中所隱含的、暗示的，需要由讀者或聽眾推斷的主題或中心話題。

segregate, insulate ，isolate, separate,這四個動詞均有「分開，分離，隔離」之意。

1. segregate: 指把一群人或物從整體或主體中分離出來。
2. insulate: 指隔開、分離，尤指用某種東西阻擋從裡面逃出或從外面進入的東西。作技術用詞時，專指用某種絕緣體隔斷通路。
3. isolate: 側重指完全分離、隔開，也指人或處於完全孤立的狀態。
4. separate: 指一般意義上的分開或隔開。

disease，illness, sickness, , complaint這四個名詞均有「疾病」之意。

1. disease: 指具體的疾病，且通常較嚴重，發病時間也較長。
2. illness: 不具體指，而是泛指一切疾病，強調生病的時間或狀語，語體較sickness正式一些。
3. sickness: 較口語化，可與illness換用，但還可表示「噁心」。
4. complaint: 現代英語中，既可指症狀，也可指疾病。

thought, notion, impression ，idea, concept, conception, 這五個名詞均有「思想、觀點、觀念」之意。

1. thought: 指以推理、思考等智力活動為基礎的心理思維活動及其結果。
2. notion: 指的是一種模糊的，變化的莫測的想法，無可靠的基礎，未經深思熟慮的觀點。
3. impression: 指外部刺激在思想中所產生的印象。
4. idea: 最普通常用詞，幾乎適用於任何方面的思維活動。
5. concept: 指從眾多實例中通過概括、歸納而形成的對事物本質、全貌及其內部聯繫的概念或看法。
6. conception: 通常指個人或一些人所持有的具體概念或念頭，也可指概念的形成過程，含一定的想像和感情色彩意味。

1. identify: 指辨別、確定人的身份或物品的歸屬等。
2. recognize: 指所辨認的人或物多是以前所熟悉的。
3. make out: 通常指通過人的感覺器官來辨別事物。

interfere, intervene, meddle這三個動詞均含「干涉，干預」之意。

1. interfere: 側重指無權或未獲允許而妨礙、阻擾、干涉他人之事。
2. intervene: 書面用詞，指介入爭端，進行調停，也指干涉他人之事。
3. meddle: 指干預與自己毫不相關的事或不屬於自己職責範圍的事，隱含未經許可或授權。可與interfere換用。

issue, distribute, publish這三個動詞均有「發行，發出，發給」之意。

1. issue: 多指通過官方或正式渠道正式發行。
2. distribute: 指把東西分發給所屬者或應得者。
3. publish: 普通用詞，多指出版發行文字作品，也指發布新聞或發表見解等。

掌握這些近義詞彙之間的搭配關係，如動詞與介詞，形容詞與介詞，形容詞與名詞等都是十分必要的。由此可見，各位親在複習單詞時，要養成一個基本習慣，就是儘可能拓展所遇到單詞的相關近義詞。而且，不僅要記單詞，背單詞，擴大詞彙量，更要學會去辨析，尤其對相似易混詞彙應進行重點學習，此乃擴充詞彙量的有效途徑。
