在英語學習的過程中有三個詞經常使大家很疑惑，那就是either，neither和both。這三個詞常用來描述"在兩個選項之間進行選擇"的情況，一般來講，所選擇的結果會有"兩者選其一"、"兩者都有"或者"兩者都不"三種。本期內容就針對這三個詞逐一進行講解。

- 1.1 Either
Either意思為"兩者中的一個"，可以理解為"非A即B，非B即A"。這種情況下either後一般接單數名詞。請看一下例句：
You can join either class on the schedule.
你可以參加課表上任意一節課。
【這時，either說明課表上有兩節課。】
I am not that hungry, either soup is fine for me.
我不是很餓，隨便點一個湯就行。
【這時，either說明有兩個湯可以選擇。】
- 1.2 Neither
Neither表示"兩者都不"的意思，可以理解為"非A非B"。Neither之後接單數名詞。這種情況就相當於either的否定陳述。請看例句：
Neither boy wants that old bicycle.
這兩個男孩都不想要那輛老舊自行車。
Either boy doesn't want that old bicycle.
任何一個男孩都不想要那輛老舊自行車。
- 1.3 Both
Both表示"兩者都有"的意思，可以理解為"既A又B"。Both一般放在複數名詞之前，或複數代詞的賓格之後。請看以下例句：
I like both (the) phones, but I need to decide which one to buy.
這兩個手機我都喜歡，但我只能買一個。
【both phones之間可以使用the, these等來限定phones。】
I have two phones, and I like them both.
我有兩個手機，兩個我都很喜歡。
- 1.4 Either, Neither和Both三個詞也可以單獨使用，比如以下情境：
A: Would you like noodles or rice for you lunch?
早餐你是想吃麵條還是米飯？
B: Either. / Neither. / Both.
隨便一個。/ 都不想吃。/ 兩個都要吃。

- 2.1 Either of
Either of表示"兩者中的一個"，一般有兩種結構：
Either of + 限定詞（the / these / those / my / …） + 複數名詞
Either of the students might be admitted by the university.
這兩個學生中的一個有可能會被這所大學錄取。
Either of + 複數代詞的賓格（you / us / them）
There are two cups of wine on the table, I will drink either of them.
桌子上有兩杯酒，我要和其中任意一杯。
- 2.2 Neither of
Neither of表示"兩者都不"，一般有兩種結構：
Neither of + 限定詞（the / these / those / my / …） + 複數名詞
Neither of my daughters can swim.
我的兩個女兒都不會游泳。
Neither of + 複數代詞的賓格（you / us / them）
Neither of you are qualified for the position.
你們兩人都不能勝任這個職位。
- 2.3 Both of
Both of表示"兩者都會"，一般有兩種結構：
Both (of) + 限定詞（the / these / those / my / …） + 複數名詞
【此處的of可以省略】
I talked with both (of) the teachers about how to teach the lessons well.
我和兩位老師都討論了如何才能講好課。
Both of + 複數代詞的賓格（you / us / them）
Both of them are working hard enough, they deserve the prize.
他們兩個工作非常努力，這個獎項他們實至名歸。

- 3.1 Either… or…
Either … or…一般用來表示"在兩者中進行選擇"，此時會提供明確的兩個選項。因此可以表示為這個結構either A or B。
I can drink either beer or wine.
不管是啤酒還是紅酒我都可以喝。
Either a piece of paper or a notebook is necessary in the meeting.
無論是一張紙或是一個筆記本，在開會的時候都是有必要的。
【句子中的動詞的人稱由or後面名詞的數量決定，本句中的動詞之所以是is，正是因為or後面的名詞a notebook是單數。】
【但是得注意一種情況，如果either後面的名詞為複數，or後面的名詞為單數時，句子的動詞人稱既可以是單數，也可以是複數。請看例句】
Either the phones or the laptop in this office is / are connected to the internet.
在這個辦公室，無論是手機還是筆記本電腦都連接了網絡。
- 3.2 Neither… nor…
Neither … nor…一般用來表示"在兩者中都不"，此時會提供明確的兩個選項。因此可以表示為這個結構neither A nor B。
Neither the boss nor the employees of the company are satisfied with the sales in Q3.
這個公司的老闆和員工都對第三季度的銷售不滿意。
【句子中的動詞的人稱由nor後面名詞的數量決定，本句中的動詞之所以是are，正是因為nor後面的名詞the employees是複數。】
【但是得注意一種情況，如果neither後面的名詞為複數，nor後面的名詞為單數時，句子的動詞人稱既可以是單數，也可以是複數。請看例句】
Neither the phones nor the laptop in this office is / are connected to the internet.
這個辦公室里的手機和筆記本電腦都沒有連接網絡。
- 3.3 Either… or…和Neither… nor…兩個結構也可以在多個選項中進行選擇。
Either A, B, or C.
I would like either apple, banana, or peach.
我想吃蘋果、香蕉或者桃子。
Neither A, B, nor C.
Neither apple, banana, nor peach are the fruits for me.
我不喜歡蘋果、香蕉或是桃子這樣的水果。
- 3.4 Both… and…
Both… and…一般用來表示"兩者都會"，此時會提供明確的兩個選項。因此可以表示為這個結構both A and B。
Both Roc and Sara are teachers.
Roc和Sara都是老師。
