他們有些日常用語表達的意思很微妙，
有時連其他英語國家人士都無法完全理解，

英式客套：I hear what you say.
我聽見你說什麼了。
你以為的：He accepts my point of view.
他同意我的觀點。
真正意思：I disagree and do not want to discuss it further.
我不贊同你，這個問題的討論就此打住吧。
英式客套：You must come for dinner.
有機會一定要來吃晚餐啊。
你以為的：I will get an invitation soon.
我很快要收到赴宴邀請啦。
真正意思：It's not an invitation, I'm just being polite.
然而並沒有什麼邀請，人家只是表示禮貌而已。
英式客套：I almost agree.
我差不多同意。
你以為的：He's not far from agreement.
他離同意也不遠了。
真正意思：I don't agree at all.
我根本不同意。
英式客套：I only have a few minor comments.
我提供了幾處小的修改意見。
你以為的：He has found a few typos.
他發現了幾處拼寫錯誤。
真正意思：Please rewrite completely.
你還是重寫吧。
英式客套：Could we consider some other options.
我們還有其他備選項嗎？
你以為的：They have not yet decided.
他們還沒決定（需要進一步討論）。
真正意思：I don't like your idea.
我覺得你的主意不怎麼樣。
英式客套：With the greatest respect...
洗耳恭聽
你以為的：He is listening to me.
他在認真聽。
真正意思：You are an idiot.
你個傻瓜。
英式客套：That's not bad. 不賴。
你以為的：That's poor. 很渣。
真正意思：That's good. 很好。
英式客套：Quite good. 挺好的。
你以為的：Quite good. 挺好的。
真正意思：A bit disappointing. 不盡如人意。
英式客套：That is a very brave proposal.
這個提議挺大膽的。
你以為的：He thinks I have courage.
他讚賞我的勇氣。
真正意思：You are insane. 你瘋了吧。
英式客套：I would suggest...
我的建議就是（建議內容）。
你以為的：Think about the idea, but do what you like.
考慮一下這個建議，但最終由你決定。
真正意思：Do it or be prepared to justify yourself.
就按這個來，否則說出你自己的理由。
英式客套：Oh, incidentally/by the way...
哎，對了（還有個事兒）。
你以為的：That is not very important.
不是什麼重要的事兒。
真正意思：The primary purpose of our discussion is...
此次討論的主題就是（這件事）。
英式客套：I was a bit disappointed that...
（對這件事）我有點失望。
你以為的：It doesn't really matter.
沒什麼要緊。
真正意思：I am annoyed that...
（對這件事）我很不滿。
英式客套：Very interesting.
挺有意思的。
你以為的：They are impressed.
他們覺得這個很好。
真正意思：That is clearly nonsense.
簡直胡扯。
英式客套：I'll bear it in mind.
我會記下的。
你以為的：They will probably do it.
他們會記得做這件事。
真正意思：I've forgotten it already.
誰還記得那個啊。
英式客套：I'm sure it's my fault.
我確定這是我的錯。
你以為的：Why do they think it was their fault?
為什麼他們會覺得這是他們的錯？
真正意思：It's your fault. 其實是你的錯。
