（1）突出、伸出
英英釋義：If something stands out from a surface, it rises up from it.
例句：
His tendons stood out like rope beneath his skin.
他的筋像繩子般在皮膚下突出來。
（2）引人注目、顯眼，與眾不同，出類拔萃
英英釋義：If something stands out, it is very noticeable.
例句：
Hey, you look like a million dollars today. You stand out in the crowd.
你今天看起來美極了，在人群中很引人注目。
Keep it up! I believe you can stand out from the rest of your class.
堅持下去！我相信你可以在班上出類拔萃！
（3）拒不妥協、堅決反對
英英釋義：be stubborn in resolution or resistance.
例句：
He is a tough cookie, and he stands out against all persuasion.
他是個固執的傢伙，堅持不聽一切勸說。
這個例句裡面有一個很有意思的表達，大家可以學習一下，就是「tough cookie」，這裡的「tough」我們應該理解成「堅強的，不屈不撓的」，cookie實際是指「餅乾、小甜點」，兩者合起來就是指「非常堅強的人，不易受別人影響的人」，這樣的人極端一點，就是一個「頑固派」。
