It was a lovely summer morning, but Roo was feeling grumpy and he didn't know why.
那是一个可爱的夏天清晨，但是小袋鼠Roo 却很焦躁，它不知道为什么自己会这样。
He was feeling so grumpy that he didn't even want to play.
他焦躁到都不想去玩游戏。
"What's wrong with you this morning?" asked his mother.
“怎么了，”它的妈妈问道。
"Nothing," said Roo.
Roo 说："没什么。"
"You should smile," his mother said. “Everybody feels better when they smile.”
“你应该笑起来，”它的妈妈又说道。“当笑起来时，每个人心情都会变好。”
But little Roo wasn't in a smiling mood today, not even when his mother tickled him gently.
但是小袋鼠Roo 今天却一点也没有笑起来的情绪，甚至当它的妈妈挠它痒痒时，他也没有笑出来。
"Did I see a tiny smile?" she asked. "Just one?"
“我刚才是不是看到了你有一点笑容” 她问道。“只是一个笑容？”
"No!" said Roo. "You didn't."
“不！” Roo 说道。“你没看到笑容。”
His mum reached out and flipped him up head over heels.
于是Roo的妈妈把它高高的抛上了天空，又让它在空中翻了个滚。
It was the kind of game that little kangaroos love to play!
那是小袋鼠们最爱玩的游戏了！
But would it work this grumpy morning?
但是，在小袋鼠焦躁的这个早上玩游戏还有用吗？
No. Little Roo did not smile. Not even a teeny-weeny one.
答案是：没有用。小袋鼠Roo 的脸上仍旧没有笑容。一个很小的笑容也没有。
His mother skipped into a hollow tree where they liked to play.
它的妈妈跳进一个空心树里面，这个空心树是它们以前经常做游戏的地方.
She popped her head through a hole in the trunk.
袋鼠妈妈从树洞中把头伸出来。
"Smile!"
“笑一个！”
"I still don't want to," said little Roo.
“我还是不想笑，”小袋鼠Roo说道。
"Oh dear," said his mum.
“好吧，”它的妈妈说道。
So she gathered up some dry leaves, tossed them into the air and all the leaves came down on little Roo.
接着袋鼠妈妈捧起一堆干树叶扔到天空中，树叶一片片的飘落下来，全部落在了小袋鼠Roo 的头上。
He looked so funny!
它看起来好玩极了。
"I think I can see a smile this time," laughed his mum. "Just a bit of a one...?"
“我想这次我看到了你的一个笑容，”它的妈妈大笑道。“仅仅一个很小的笑容？”
"You don't," said Roo. "I'm NOT smiling."
“你没看到，”小袋鼠Roo 说道。“我根本没有笑出来。”
"Oh well," sighed his mother.
“好吧，”袋鼠妈妈说。
It was time for breakfast.
该吃早饭了。
Little Roo's mum lifted him up. "Let's go down the hill together and find something to eat."
小袋鼠妈妈把它高高举起来。“我们一起下山去找点吃的吧。”
"I'm not hungry," said Roo grumpily.
“可我一点也不饿，”Roo 生气的说道。
"Come on."
“走吧。”
"Hold on tight!"
“抓紧了！”
And off they went.
它们一起出发了。
Halfway down the hill there was a hole.
在下山路程的途中，有一个大坑。
It wasn't a deep hole, but it was a wide hole, and a muddy-at-the-bottom hole.
那不是一个很深的坑，却是一个很宽很大的坑，在坑里有很多泥土。
"Look out!" cried Roo.
“快看路！”小袋鼠Roo 大哭着说道。
But his mum was doing silly hops from side to side instead of looking where she was doing.
但是它的妈妈却还是傻傻的笨笨跳跳，从这边跳到那边，一点也没有看路。
AND...
然后...
...slippity 嗖
...slippity 嗖
...slide and... （脚下一滑）
...slop! 泥浆四溅
Right into the hole. 刚好跳进洞里。
What a mess. 真是一团糟。
WHAT A MESS! 真是一团糟！
Roo himself was muddy all over.
小袋鼠自己满身都是泥。
Then he looked at his mother, who was soaking wet and slimy from the tops of her ears to the tips of her toes.
然后它看了看它的妈妈， 它的妈妈全身湿透了并且从耳朵到脚趾都沾满了泥。
And little Roo couldn't do anything else. He just had to...
小袋鼠Roo 看到这个情况什么也顾不上了。他情不自禁地...
...smile!
笑了出来！
"I love it when you smile."
“我爱你的微笑。”
