原標題:新晉頂流「冰墩墩」,英文為啥不是「bing dundun」?

China will increase the supply of merchandise featuring "Bing Dwen Dwen", the panda mascot of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, the organising committee said on Sunday.

組委會周日表示,中國將增大特色商品「冰墩墩」—北京2022年冬季奧運會大熊貓吉祥物的供應量。

The announcement came as Chinese media and internet users reported difficulty in purchasing souvenirs in the likeness of the chubby panda in a hard, transparent body suit. Many had queued for hours in cold weather outside a flagship store in Beijing but failed to get the soft toys and other decorations.

聲明就在中國媒體和網友們紛紛表示很難買到胖乎乎的穿著堅硬透明的緊身衣的冰墩墩紀念品之後宣布。即使在寒冬,還是有許多人仍守在北京一家旗艦店外排了幾個小時的隊,但卻沒能買到它的玩具和其他周邊。

為什麼叫「Bing Dwen Dwen」?

In Mandarin Chinese (the official dialect of China), "Bing" has several meanings, though the most common is ice. The word also symbolises purity and strength, while 「Dwen Dwen」 means robust and lively, and also represents children. The mascot embodies the strength and willpower of athletes and will help to promote the Olympic spirit.

"One Dwen at each family" has become the No 4 most trending topic on Weibo. Chinese internet users are calling for the organisers to meet the surging demand.

在微博上,「一戶一墩」成為了第4大熱門話題。網友們呼籲組織者滿足大家對冰墩墩的需求。
