Live streaming has become a viable sourceof revenue in China in recent years, thanks to the booming e-commerce industry.The trend is popular not only in big cities, but also in small townships andvillages. CGTN's GUAN YANG went to one town in northeastern China's Liaoningprovince and has this report.

22-year-old Yang Zhanyu is a local livestreaming celebrity in Laobian district, located near Bohai Bay. His large fanbase helps him rake in money from his T-shirt sales. For many young people fromsmall towns and villages across China, live streaming is their way of climbingthe social ladder.

Already checked! China’s youngest workers have entered perhaps the country’s toughest job market in the modern era.However, behind each of these little live streaming cameras, hiring and entrepreneurship are gaining momentum.

Following the recession amid thecoronavirus, I spent more time coaching young people -- as well as those who have difficulties finding jobs -- to become hosts in the live-stream shoppingindustry. This is something anyone can try.

The econonmy in China's northeast reliesheavily on traditional sectors like manufacturing and mining. But the younggeneration is breaking free from that. A large number of the most popularlive-streaming hosts are from here. Some say it is because of their personalities -- outgoing, frank and talkative.
In Laobian, local officials have anambitious idea for this emerging indsutry -- to develop the district into the country's Silicon Valley for live stream shopping.
中國東北的經濟嚴重依賴製造業和採礦業等傳統行業，但年輕一代正在擺脫這種束縛。很多最受歡迎的直播主播都來自這裡。有人說這是因為他們的性格——外向、坦率且健談。

From storage and logistics, to humanresources and market supervision, Laobian has developed a full system aroundlive stream shopping. In preparation for the coming 5G era, the region hasinvested big in infrastructure to enable hosting 16 million live streamingevents simultaneously.

We think this industry needs to beregulatory-driven in the long run. Both the hosts and the products have to follow rules and regulations like in the retail sector. By doing so, it can boost consumers' recognition of our district.

As live stream shopping gains popularity,it will be important to watch and learn how small townships like Laobiantransform themselves... from an economy based on manufacturing... to a centerof services and consumer spending.
