「熟詞偏義」是英語中常見的情況，看似每個單詞都認識，連在一起就不知道是什麼意思。比如下面的表達：number one什麼意思？
1、「number one」是什麼意思？
在大家認知當中，number one是「第一」的意思，如果number one 當做動詞來用呢？難道是當第一？意思往往令你想不到。是小便的意思，number 1=pee （pee小便）
例：
I want to make number one, mommy.
媽媽, 我要撒尿。
2、「Number two」是什麼意思？
這個詞在表義上是數字2的意思，在《老友記》第三季第八集Rachael說：number one number two，Joey就在哈哈大笑。這是為何呢？
這是美國俚語，number 2=poo (poo 大便)
例：
My elder brother is doing number two.
我哥在拉粑粑。
3、為什麼會有這樣的一個說法呢？
In the 1960′s, the children used to play these tricks by raising 1 finger if they had to pee and 2 fingers if they had to do the poo in a ongoing classroom.
在20世紀60年代，孩子們經常用這樣的一個小訣竅，如果他們要尿尿就舉起一個手指，如果正在上課時他們要大便就舉起兩個手指。
Apparently it was to inform the teacher of how long the child was going to be out of class for the bathroom.
顯然，這是為了通知老師孩子要多長時間離開課堂去上廁所。
If you ask the reason this wasn't kept a classroom tradition for long was likely due to the fact that students probably learned they could get more time out of class if they unabashedly raised 2 fingers.
如果你問為什麼這種課堂傳統沒有保持很長時間，很可能是因為學生們知道如果他們大膽地舉起兩根手指，他們就可以得到更多的課外時間。
