Let's review the story first.
Wilf had come round to play.
He invited Biff and Chip to visit the Huntley Hall.
The stately home was all about ghost.
Suddenly, The magic took the children to the grounds of a big house at night.
They got in and had a look around.
The children stepped into a large room lit by oil lamps.
There was no sign of anybody.
Was that a Haunted Mansion?
What will happen next.

Chip picked up the paper on the table.
Chip 撿起桌上的紙。
"It's a drawing of (those flowers over there)," he said.
It's a drawing 這是一幅畫，畫的是什麼呢？
those flowers over there 那邊的一些花
of 可以理解成 「的」，a drawing of .... 什麼的一幅畫
Chip 說：這是一幅畫，畫的是那邊的一些花。
"But who made it?"
但是，誰畫的呢？
"I know!" said Wilf. "A ghose must have done it! The ghost of Huntley Hall!"
但是，誰畫的呢？
Wilf 說：我知道了！一定是幽靈畫的，Huntley Hall 的幽靈。
The children jumped when a voice said. "I am not a ghost!"
when 當...的時候，
當聽見一個聲音在說：我不是幽靈！孩子們跳了起來。
A boy stood up from a hiding place behind the desk.
"I was sketching those flowers," he said.
sketch (畫) 素描/速寫
男孩從桌子後面一個隱蔽的地方站了起來。
他說：我畫了那些花。

The boy said his name was Henry.
"Why were you hiding behind the desk?" asked Biff.
"I heard a noise in the hall and got worried," Henry explained.
男孩子說他的名字是 Henry。
Biff 問：為什麼你要躲在桌子後面？
Henry 解釋道：我聽到大廳里有聲音，我很擔心。
"I want to be an artist," he went on.
"But my father thinks that's silly.
He gets cross when I sketch.
他繼續說到：我想要成為一名藝術家。
但是我的父親認為那很愚蠢。
我畫畫的時候他很生氣。
So I wait until everybody is asleep."
"You're a good artist, too." said Chip.

所以我等到大家都睡著（才畫畫）。
Chip 說：你也是一名很棒的畫家。

"I've got an idea." said Biff. "Why don't you sketch the three of us?"
Why don't you do sth？
你為什麼不...呢？
比如說：
Why don't you have another try?
為何不再試一次呢？
Biff 說：我有個主意，為什麼你不畫我們三個呢？
Henry smiled. "That would be nice," he said.
Wilf put his hands on his hips and stuck his chin out.
"How's this?" he joked.
Henry 笑了笑。他說：那一定很棒。
Wilf 把手放在他的屁股上，伸出了下巴。
他開玩笑說：這個怎麼樣？
Wilf 擺出了一個誇張的姿勢。
Henry pointed to the fireplace.
Henry 指著火爐。
"Perhaps you should just all stand over there." he said.
Perhaps 也許、可能
他說：也許你們應該都站在那兒。
He took a fresh piece of paper and began to sketch.
fresh 新鮮的，這裡是 new 新的，這個意思
他拿出一張新的紙，開始畫畫。
Biff, Chip and Wilf concentrated hard on not moving a muscle.
concentrated on 集中精神，hard 努力地
not moving a muscle 不讓一塊肌肉移動，也就是一動不動。
Biff，Chip 和 Wilf 努力地集中精神，一動不動。

Suddenly a gust of wind blew through the open window.
a gust of wind 一陣風
突然，一陣風吹過打開了的窗戶。
The curtains billowed and knocked one of the lamps over.
billow （布製品）鼓了起來
knock over 撞到
窗簾鼓了起來，撞倒了油燈。
It fell onto a scrunched-up piece of paper.
"It's on fire!" cried Henry in alarm.
crunched-up 捲起來的
in alarm 驚慌地
它落在了捲起來的紙上。
Henry 驚慌地大叫：著火了！
The other children turned to see the flame catch at the bottom of the long curtain.
flame 火焰，火焰 catch
the flame catch the curtain
catch 是 「抓住」 的意思
很形象吧，火焰抓住了窗簾
那就是：火焰燒到了怎麼樣的窗簾 long curtain 長長的窗簾
燒到窗簾的哪裡了呢？
還記得 of 嗎？相當於 「的」
the bottom of ... 的尾部
其他孩子看到火焰已經燒到了長長的窗簾的尾部。
There was no way to put the fire out.
It climbed quickly, growing bigger and bigger.
way 辦法、方法
沒有辦法把火撲滅了。
它向上串的特別快，變得越來越大。

"Quick!" said Biff."We have to wake（everybody in the house）up!"
The children ran to the hall and began to shout, "Wake up! Fire!" at the top of their voices.
wake sb up 叫醒某人
Biff 說：快！我們必須叫醒房子裡的每個人！
孩子們跑去大廳，用他們最大的聲音開始大叫：起來！著火了！
They heard footsteps clumping, and then a big man in a nightshirt raced down the stairs.
"Where's the fire? What's going on, Henry?" he demanded.
Henry pointed throught the open door （to the study）.
clumping means walk with heavy, clumsy steps. 邁著沉重的腳步走
raced down 快速的下樓
race 是 「賽跑」 的意思，這裡用 race，說明了走的速度很快
他們聽到噔噔噔地腳步聲，然後一個穿睡衣的大個子男人快速的跑下樓梯。
他問：哪裡著火了？Henry，發生什麼事了？
Henry 指向那扇開著的（通往書房的）門。
How do they put out the fire?
Were there some ghosts in the Huntley Hall?
Who could be the goest？
What will happen next？
