本句涉及到語法：全部否定、部分否定
全部否定通常由含有全部否定意義的詞，如 no, none, nobody, nowhere, no one, never, neither, nor，nothing 等加上表示肯定意義的謂語動詞構成。
如：None of his friends turned up.
他的朋友全沒到。
部分否定是由表示總括意義的詞如all, both, every, each, everything, everybody 和always, completely, entirely, wholly 等加上否定詞 not, never 等構成的，含有「不全是、並非都」等意思。
如：All that glitters is not gold.
閃閃發光的未必都是金子。

我戒煙4年了。
這句話涉及到完成時中since的用法，可以這樣記：
it has been + 時間段 since + 一般過去時（瞬間動詞）：自從...至今已經多久了
it has been + 時間段 since + 一般過去時（延續動詞）：自從不...至今已經多久了
smoke 是延續性動詞，所以是第二種意思。
再來一個例句：
I haven』t heard any noise since I slept.
sleep 為持續性動詞
所以應譯為「我醒後還未聽到任何聲音」。
