It was a lovely summer morning, but Roo was feeling grumpy and he didn't know why.
那是一個可愛的夏天清晨，但是小袋鼠Roo 卻很焦躁，它不知道為什麼自己會這樣。
He was feeling so grumpy that he didn't even want to play.
他焦躁到都不想去玩遊戲。
"What's wrong with you this morning?" asked his mother.
「怎麼了，」它的媽媽問道。
"Nothing," said Roo.
Roo 說："沒什麼。"
"You should smile," his mother said. 「Everybody feels better when they smile.」
「你應該笑起來，」它的媽媽又說道。「當笑起來時，每個人心情都會變好。」
But little Roo wasn't in a smiling mood today, not even when his mother tickled him gently.
但是小袋鼠Roo 今天卻一點也沒有笑起來的情緒，甚至當它的媽媽撓它痒痒時，他也沒有笑出來。
"Did I see a tiny smile?" she asked. "Just one?"
「我剛才是不是看到了你有一點笑容」 她問道。「只是一個笑容？」
"No!" said Roo. "You didn't."
「不！」 Roo 說道。「你沒看到笑容。」
His mum reached out and flipped him up head over heels.
於是Roo的媽媽把它高高的拋上了天空，又讓它在空中翻了個滾。
It was the kind of game that little kangaroos love to play!
那是小袋鼠們最愛玩的遊戲了！
But would it work this grumpy morning?
但是，在小袋鼠焦躁的這個早上玩遊戲還有用嗎？
No. Little Roo did not smile. Not even a teeny-weeny one.
答案是：沒有用。小袋鼠Roo 的臉上仍舊沒有笑容。一個很小的笑容也沒有。
His mother skipped into a hollow tree where they liked to play.
它的媽媽跳進一個空心樹裡面，這個空心樹是它們以前經常做遊戲的地方.
She popped her head through a hole in the trunk.
袋鼠媽媽從樹洞中把頭伸出來。
"Smile!"
「笑一個！」
"I still don't want to," said little Roo.
「我還是不想笑，」小袋鼠Roo說道。
"Oh dear," said his mum.
「好吧，」它的媽媽說道。
So she gathered up some dry leaves, tossed them into the air and all the leaves came down on little Roo.
接著袋鼠媽媽捧起一堆干樹葉扔到天空中，樹葉一片片的飄落下來，全部落在了小袋鼠Roo 的頭上。
He looked so funny!
它看起來好玩極了。
"I think I can see a smile this time," laughed his mum. "Just a bit of a one...?"
「我想這次我看到了你的一個笑容，」它的媽媽大笑道。「僅僅一個很小的笑容？」
"You don't," said Roo. "I'm NOT smiling."
「你沒看到，」小袋鼠Roo 說道。「我根本沒有笑出來。」
"Oh well," sighed his mother.
「好吧，」袋鼠媽媽說。
It was time for breakfast.
該吃早飯了。
Little Roo's mum lifted him up. "Let's go down the hill together and find something to eat."
小袋鼠媽媽把它高高舉起來。「我們一起下山去找點吃的吧。」
"I'm not hungry," said Roo grumpily.
「可我一點也不餓，」Roo 生氣的說道。
"Come on."
「走吧。」
"Hold on tight!"
「抓緊了！」
And off they went.
它們一起出發了。
Halfway down the hill there was a hole.
在下山路程的途中，有一個大坑。
It wasn't a deep hole, but it was a wide hole, and a muddy-at-the-bottom hole.
那不是一個很深的坑，卻是一個很寬很大的坑，在坑裡有很多泥土。
"Look out!" cried Roo.
「快看路！」小袋鼠Roo 大哭著說道。
But his mum was doing silly hops from side to side instead of looking where she was doing.
但是它的媽媽卻還是傻傻的笨笨跳跳，從這邊跳到那邊，一點也沒有看路。
AND...
然後...
...slippity 嗖
...slippity 嗖
...slide and... （腳下一滑）
...slop! 泥漿四濺
Right into the hole. 剛好跳進洞裡。
What a mess. 真是一團糟。
WHAT A MESS! 真是一團糟！
Roo himself was muddy all over.
小袋鼠自己滿身都是泥。
Then he looked at his mother, who was soaking wet and slimy from the tops of her ears to the tips of her toes.
然後它看了看它的媽媽， 它的媽媽全身濕透了並且從耳朵到腳趾都沾滿了泥。
And little Roo couldn't do anything else. He just had to...
小袋鼠Roo 看到這個情況什麼也顧不上了。他情不自禁地...
...smile!
笑了出來！
"I love it when you smile."
「我愛你的微笑。」
