前几天在看国外论坛的时候发现一个俚语特别有意思，给大家介绍一下。

老外说“Mum’s the word”是啥意思？有什么企图？

难道这是什么新型的暗号吗？

1. Mum's the word

“Mum’s the word”可不是要你“听妈妈的话”，那有什么企图？

其实，当我们说Mum’s the word，it means to keep this a secret, do not tell anybody。

也就是说，保守秘密，不说出去；有点像是中文里面的“我发誓”。

英语例句看看：

- I don't want anyone to know that I'm back yet, so mum's the word.

- Your secret is safe with me. Mum's the word.

- 我还不想让任何人知道我回来了，你发誓。

-我不会泄露你的秘密的。我发誓！

* 这个俚语来源很久远了，在那个时候mum这个单词的意思是“silence”沉默的意思，这就是为啥用了mum’s the word这个表达。

而且在发mum这个音的时候，嘴巴开了一下下马上闭上了，可不就是不说出去保守秘密么。

2. Lie low

为了好好的保守秘密，我们肯定要保持低调，甚至藏起来，这样的话你才不会被人抓到小辫子。

在英语中就有一个类似的表达叫做lie low——保持低调。

It means to hide so you will not be caught by someone。它的意思是藏起来，这样你就不会被别人抓住了。

英语例句瞅瞅：

I'd lie low if I were you till the trouble passes.

如果我是你，我会躲起来直到麻烦过去。

He is going to lie low at home this week, he doesn't really feel like going out at all.

这个星期他打算在家里躲起来，他根本不想出去。

3. Send him packing

如果你的朋友不能帮你保守秘密，甚至大嘴巴一样把你的秘密到处宣扬，我估计你巴不得把她打包送去太平洋吧？

在英文中我们会用“send him packing/send her packing”来表达这种情绪。

Send him packing means to ask sb. to go away because you are annoyed with them.也就是请某人离开，因为你生他们的气，看着就心烦！

英语例句瞄瞄：

I couldn't stand his bad breath anymore, so I sent him packing.

我忍不了他的口臭了！所以我让他滚了。
