If you see stars, you are partly unconscious because you have been hit on the head.

而make (one) see stars其实就是指“揍人”(to strike one in the head)揍到ta眼冒金星。

但实际上也有明星的含义：
如果你真是明星名人，You're star.也可以是:
你是大明星, 这里的star=明星。

get stars in one's eyes不要按照字面理解为“眼睛里有星星”，实际的意思是“自鸣得意”。
例：
He got stars in his eyes just because he got the lead role in the school play.
