（1）Writing Workshop: Representing Yourself through Personal Essays, Blogs, and Correspondence
This intensive writing course will focus on the personal essay and the place(s) of writing in our everyday lives. We will explore the ways essay writing corresponds with other forms of personal correspondence (including but not limited to blogs, diaries, professional correspondence, and letter writing) as well as the impulse to order our lives, and to direct or touch the lives of others, through writing. Students will leave the class with several working drafts, including a draft of a college entrance essay.

（2） Psychology and Fiction
This seminar uses basic principles of psychology to analyze the characters and plots of popular current fiction. Using theories of family dynamics and social development and psychoanalytic, behavioral and interactional approaches to personality, students will develop a greater understanding of both the novel and the novelist. Students will also learn how to apply that understanding to real-life people and situations. Students are required to write two term papers, and participate actively in class discussions. Prerequisites: Students must be able and willing to read 100-150 pages per day.

This course will provide an overview of social psychology: the study of how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by others. Topics to be covered include persuasion, social influence, stereotyping and prejudice, relationships, aggression, and prosocial behavior. In addition to building conceptual understanding, we will discuss real-world applications and implications of social psychological phenomena for daily life. Students will gain an understanding of the strong (but usually unrecognized) social forces that influence our perceptions, judgments, and actions.

In this course, you will be introduced to the field of cognitive psychology, or the study of the mechanisms of human thinking. Among the topics we will explore are memory, attention, language, reasoning, decision making, intelligence, and creativity. Students should leave this course with an understanding of the major theories of cognitive psychology, an appreciation of the diversity of research areas in cognitive psychology, and an understanding of the methods used in cognitive psychology, including behavioral and neuroscientific methods.
