1、can的用法
（1） 表示體力和腦力方面的能力。
He can speak a little English now. 他現在能說一點英語。
（2） 表示對現在的動作或狀態進行主觀的猜測，主要用在否定句和疑問句中。
（3）表示可能性，理論上的可能性，意為「有時候可能會」，可用於肯定句。
（4）表示允許，意思與may接近。
（5）表示說話人的推測、懷疑、驚異、猜測或不肯定等，主要用於否定句、疑問句或感嘆句中。
I wonder if my long lost neighbor can/could still be alive.
我懷疑我失蹤已久的鄰居是否還有可能活著。Such things can/could and do happen.
這樣的事情可能而且確實發生了。
（6）can的特殊句型
cannot…too / enough表示「無論怎麼……也不過分」。「越……越好」。
You cannot be too careful to cross the street. You cannot be careful enough to ross the street.
過馬路的時候，你怎么小心都不為過。
We cannot put too much emphasis on grammar when learning written English.
學習書面英語時，我們再怎麼強調語法也不為過。
(We can neverput toomuch emphasis on grammar when learning written English.)

I can hardly praise this film too highly.

cannot but+ do sth.表示「不得不，只好」。
I cannot but agree to your decision.
我不得不同意你的決定。

2、could的用法
（1） 表示能力，指的是過去時間。
Could she speak English then? 那時候她會說英語嗎?
She studied hard but still couldn』t pass the exam.她學習很努力，但是仍然沒通過考試。
（2）表示過去一般性允許，指的是過去時間。
注意，表示過去一般性允許(即表示某人隨時都可以做某事)，用could
When I lived at home, I could watch TV whenever I wanted to. 我住在家裡時, 想什麼時候看電影就可以什麼時候看(一般性允許)
表示在過去某一特定情況下允許進行某一特定的活動，則不用could
He was allowed to see the film yesterday evening. 昨天晚上允許他去看了電影。(特定的允許，不能用could)
表示可能，可以指過去時間，也可以指現在時間，表示語氣緩和。
can和could都表示「能」，但can多表允許的能，could多表自身能力的能。
He can drive in this country. 他能（被允許）在這個國家開車。
He could drive in this country. 他在這個國家能（有能力）開車。
We could relax the procedure slightly in your case.
我們可以根據你的情況通融一些。
（3） 委婉客氣地提出問題或陳述看法，指的是現在時間。主要用於疑問句，回答時用can。
Could I use your pen?（不知道對方是否借鋼筆，很委婉的請求）
Can/could I borrow your thermos?
我可以借用你的暖水瓶嗎？
（4） can't /couldn't (與比較級連用，強調某物或某人具備某種特徵的程度)太…，再…不過
情態動詞+not+比較級 再…都不為過，是一種強調說明，也是肯定語氣。
I couldn't be happier.我太幸福了。
The rest of the players are a great bunch of lads and I couldn't be happier.
剩下的選手是一幫很棒的小伙子，我太高興了。
It couldn't be better.不能再好了/最好的。
I can't agree more.我是最同意的。
但是某些情況下這種結構也可以用作否定含義，作為簡單的陳述事實或啟使。例如：
He is tired and he can't run faster. 他累得跑不快了。
In some public place,you cant't be too noisy. 在一些公共場所，你不能大聲喧譁。
至於什麼時候是肯定的強調，什麼時候是否定的陳述，就要結合具體的語境了。can't be better! 這再好不過了！
（5）could 真想（強調感覺）
I could kill you! I swear I could!
我想殺了你！我發誓我真想殺了你！

3、can與could的區別
can表推測時只用於否定句和疑問句（could無此限制）。couldn』t的可能性比can』t小。
表示建議和忠告，帶有一定的禮貌性和客氣語氣，只能用could ：
Could you give me a suggestion about learning english?（你能給我一條學英語的建議嗎？）
虛擬語氣裡面只能用could
If it had not rained so hard yesterday we could have played tennis（本該去打球的，但由於下雨沒去）
He could have done this. 他本可以做這個的。
If I could go with you, I should feel very glad.
假如我能同你們一起去， 我會感到非常高興。
You could have been more considerate.
你本來可以更慎重些。
can't have done， couldn't have done.
前者仍然表示「不可能、沒有這種可能性」，後者表示「可能不是，不太可能」
From her knowledge of Douglas's habits, she feels sure that the attacker can't have been Douglas
根據她對道格拉斯習性的了解，她敢斷定他不可能是那個襲擊者。

4、can與be able to的區別
（1） 現在時：無區別，但後者不常用。can是動詞原形比較直接，不留餘地；could比較委婉，含有一定的感情色彩，有時表示把握不大或猶豫；could用於特殊疑問句常含有驚訝、迷惑等感情色彩。could用於特殊疑問句常含有驚訝、迷惑等感情色彩。
Could I try those shoes on please? 我能試一下那些鞋子嗎？
注意：表示給予允許(即自己允許別人做某事), 一般只用can，而could常用在疑問句中（不可用於肯定句中），但是回答要用can
例：Could you please take out the trash ? 你能幫我倒一下垃圾嗎？Yes,I can/No,I can't
（2）be able to有完成時;can沒有完成時，此時要用have（has,had）been able to。
（3）將來時：can沒有將來時，要用will be able to。
（5） 過去時：could表示一般能力，was/were able to 表示在過去某具體場合通過努力成功做成某事的能力。
You』ll be able to get a taxi outside the station.
在車站外可搭乘計程車。
I haven』t been able to get much work done today.
我今天未能幹多少工作。
She』d love to be able to play the piano.
她很希望能彈鋼琴。
（6） can't be doing with sth
（表示因不喜歡而不願接受）無法接受某物:
I can't be doing with people who complain all the time.
我無法忍受那些整天發牢騷的人。
