將謂語的一部分(即情態動詞、系動詞或助動詞)提到主語前的稱為部分倒裝。如句中沒有情態動詞、助動詞或系動詞，謂語只是一個實義動詞，要在主語前加助動詞do，does或did，主語後的實義動詞用原形。常見的有：

(1) 含有否定意義的詞never，seldom，little.hardly，not，scarcely，nowhere，by no means(決不)等置於句首時。

Never have I seen such a man.我從來沒有見過這樣的人。

Not until yesterday did we know that he had died of cancer.

直到昨天我們才知道他死於癌症。

(2)以only修飾的副詞、介詞短語或從句放在句首時。

Only then did I realize that I was wrong.只是到那時我才意識到我錯了。

Only in this way can you improve your English. 只有這樣你才能提高英語水平。

Only when he is free does he come to see me. 只有當他空閒時才來看我。

注意：only 修飾狀語從句放在句首時，只能倒裝主句部分。

(3)當so置於句首意為「也如此」，neither，nor置於句首意為「也不」時。

They all finished the work.So did I.他們都完成了工作，我也完成了。

We have never been abroad，neither has she.我們從來未去過國外，她也沒去過。

當so表示對前句內容的肯定和附和，譯作「確實，正是」時，用自然語序。

一The students work very hard.學生們學習努力。

一So they do.他們確實是這樣。

(4)當not only…but also, so／such…that, not… until, no sooner… than, hardly… when等連詞置於句首時。

Not only did we lose all our money，but also we came close to losing our lives.

我們不但把錢全丟了，還幾乎丟了命。

So hard does he study that he often forgets food and sleep.

他學習如此努力，常常是廢寢忘食。

No sooner had I gone out than a friend of mine came to see me.

我剛出去，就有一位朋友來看我；

(5)在as引導的讓步狀語從句中(名詞／形容詞/副詞／動詞+as+主謂結構)。

Child as he is，he knows more than you.雖然他是孩子，但他懂的比你多。

Tired as he was，he continued the work.雖然他累了，但他繼續工作。

Much as I like it, I will not buy it. 雖然我很喜歡這東西，但我不想買它。

Try as they may,they will not succeed. 儘管他們很努力，但不會成功。

(6)虛擬語氣的條件狀語從句省去 if時，須將were，had，should提到句首構成倒裝句。

Were I in school again, I would work harder. 如果我重新回到學校，我會加倍努力學習。

Had you not helped me, I wouldn』t have succeeded. 若不是你幫我，我不會成功。

Should it rain tomorrow, the crops would be saved. 如果明天下雨，莊稼會得救的。 .

(7)頻度副詞often, always, once, now and then, every other day, many a time等放在句首時。

Often did we go for walks together after supper at that time.

那時，我們晚飯後常一塊兒散步。

Every other day did he go to the hospital to see his father.

每隔一天他就去醫院看望他父親。

(8)為了使句子保持平衡，為了強調錶語或為了使上下文緊密銜接時，常使用倒裝語序。

Gone forever are the days when the Chinese people were looked down upon.

中國人被瞧不起的日子一去不復返了。

出席會議的還有廣告的策劃者。
