An open book ≠一本打開的書
真正的意思：一目了然的，易看穿的。
聯想記憶法：書都打開了，所以一目了然，什麼都看得清清楚楚。
My life is an open book and I have no secret.
我的生活很明了，沒有秘密可言。
A closed book ≠一本合上的書
真正的意思：高深莫測的事物。
聯想記憶：把書合上，那就不知道裡面的知識是什麼，所以高深莫測。
I'm afraid accountancy is a closed book to me.
我恐怕對會計學一竅不通。
Cook the books ≠把書煮來吃
真正的意思：造假帳。
聯想記憶法：想把書煮來吃，就是想毀掉，可以聯想到做假帳。
Although my friend was usually honest, he decided to cook the books.
儘管朋友一向誠實，但他還是決定在帳目上做一些手腳。
By the book ≠通過書
真正的意思：按章辦事。
聯想記憶法：根據書上的條條框框，就是按章辦事。
He is an unimaginative individual who does everything by the book.
他是一個一切照章辦事，缺乏想像力的人。
Read someone like a book ≠讀某人像讀書
真正的意思：一眼看穿某人想法。
聯想記憶法：讀他就像讀書一樣，一眼就看明白了。
I can read Angela like a book. I always know what she's thinking and what she's about to say at meetings.
我能一眼看穿Angela的想法。我總是知道她在想什麼或者將要在會上說什麼。
To bring someone to book ≠帶某人去讀書
真正的意思：懲罰某人。
聯想記憶法：不愛學習，帶他去讀書就是種懲罰。
